Smoke Out 2010

We had quite a trip this year, alot of driving and setup time followed by some crazy storms Friday night and one of our tents collapsing with about 40 people under it! Luckily no one got hurt and thanks to everyone who helped us get our gear stowed! After the storm we decided to walk around and enjoy the bands while partaking i a few adult beverages..

Slab City Riot 2 - November 6th, 2010

The ChopCult crew just announced Slab City Riot 2 is going on again this November! If you missed it last year do your best to make it. You can't go wrong with an amazing ride through the mountains and desert of southern California, and the totally weird party that happens at Slab City.

North Carolina Bound, Smoke Out East here we come..

We are about to split for the Horse Smoke Out East in Rockingham, North Carolina. We have a huge setup this year, look for the 20' x 40' white tent! We also have Shawn Long from Imperial House pinstriping at our setup, as well as Clay & Erin Rathburn of Atom Bomb Customs hanging out along with a couple of their bikes. BF Josh who runs the Lowbrow booth at all the West Coast shows and his wife Rebecca will also be in from SoCal to see how it is done on the right coast. Make sure to come by and say hi and grab a beer with us.

With the Lowbrow crew being in North Carolina, we will still be taking orders and checking email, and all orders will ship out Monday morning when we are back in the shop.

MIG Welding Fundamentals with David Bird

I just uploaded the trailer for the soon-to-be-released MIG Welding Fundamentals with David Bird DVD! Both the MIG and the TIG Fundamentals DVDs will be released at the same time, we hope to have them for sale in less than two weeks. Both are the best welding videos out there, with awesome closeups of the weld pool so you can see EXACTLY what is going on, not just a bright glare like on existing how-to welding dvds.

The Lowbrow Getdown.

The Lowbrow Getdown was a huge success! We had over 100 people show up from all over Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, West Virginia, Michigan, New Hampshire, New York, even as far away as Toronto Canada! We had a smooth 2 hr ride to the campground and even though the weather called for 50% chance of thunderstorms all we saw all weekend was sun and blue skies. Here's a bunch of photos, as soon as we sort through them all we will post a photo album for the event. We just want to thank everyone for the support and coming out, and to thank our sponsors for helping make this possible. If you missed this, you missed out! Planning is in the works for an end of the season Getdown, stay tuned!

Lowbrow Getdown Updates

We just got back from setting up the main infrastructure of the Getdown.. Make sure to tell them at the entrance you are there for the Lowbrow Getdown and you should get a wristband for free camping! That is only for the first 100 people, after that it is $15 per person for the night for camping. This is what you will see coming up to the spot in the campground.


Here is the main area, kegs, big fire, food etc, with tons of camping area all around, and the quarry 20 seconds away


If anyone is camping tonight (friday), camp near this setup and keep an eye on it, we will have people showing up by lunchtime Saturday and the local ride we are leading should show up around 2:30 pm at latest

The Lowbrow Getdown is tomorrow!

2 kegs of Hobgoblin Dark Ale and a watermelon.. looks like a party to me! We are loading up everything for the Lowbrow Getdown today and getting some stuff set up over at ground-zero. If you are rolling in early follow the campsite map to where the party is and you will see a big 20' x 20' canopy and a motorhome, that is home base for the Getdown. By lunchtime tomorrow there will be cold, tapped kegs, a hot grill, a bunch of food and plenty of beautiful weather (hope hope). We have a couple guys (Paul & Marco, and Heather) coming in from the East coast today, and more that are going to be camping tonight, and tomorrow people should be rolling in all day long. Hope to see you there!

Visor Down Magazine preview!

I just wanted to give thanks to Barry at Visor Down Magazine over in the UK for the mention in his article on his modern Triumph. Lookin like he's going in the right direction there!

My Panhead project... wait that's not a Triumph!

Last month I got a new project in the shop, something I had been half-looking for for a year and a half or so. I got a good deal on this '59 Panhead and it came home with me. I got it running that weekend (thanks for the help, Todd!), and I just pulled the motor and trans. The only things I am using from the bike are the motor, trans and title, the rest of it is a mish mash of years and parts and that is traded off to a friend of mine. I have a vision in my head of what this bike is going to look like when done, and I have some parts accumulating around here for the build.


I just shipped the gearbox off to Frank Kaisler today for him to work his magic on, and I think I am going to tear that motor down next. I have a lot of black paint to remove, and I really want to go through this thing totally so I know what I have. Stay tuned for more updates as I get some free time to make progress..

Aluminum seat pan?

We got our first batch of these cast aluminum seat pans in, and of course I had to snag the first one for my race bike. Someone had to mount one for some good pictures right?! We will be adding these this week to our website, but act quick if you want one, these are made in low run batches of ten!
The bosses on the bottom of the pan come un-drilled so you can drill and tap them to whatever spacing you need for mounting.
I used a polished stainless steel Biltwell seat pivot and a set of our 4" seat springs , I would have liked to use some shorter springs but I needed to build to the tech requirements for Bonneville Speed Week. I spent a bit of time making some cool little aluminum spring retainers to mount them. I swiped the idea from Jay Roche over at Special 79, hope you don't mind man, worked great!
I decided to take this little project a bit further since it's for my land speed bike and drill some lightening holes in it. Every ounce counts right? And it looks killer!
I think this is getting sanded down and sent off to the polisher! A good days work I'd say. Let me know what you think! Cheers, Kyle

Progress is the key word.....

I spent a whole day in the shop today working on my 67 T120 land speed bike. I got a lot done which is good seeing that I have less than 2 months till we hit the road for Bonneville! Stress is high with everything to finish on my bike and Tyler going full bore on his 55 also. I got my rear wheel together and my spacers all machined as well as my rear fender mounted and fender struts fabricated.
It's starting to look like a bike and as soon as I get done with the engine build it'll really start shaping up!

Engine progress- My 67 T120 LSR

I got my cases and parts back from Wes over at Four Aces Cycle and got to work the last couple evenings. He took care of degreeing my racing cams and lightened timing wheels for me as well as all the machine work: head work, balancing the crankshaft, relieving the high compression pistons, tumbling the cases and polishing the covers for me. I went through the transmission and got it right, you have to love a rebuilt transmission, solid shifts through all four gears!
I had to modify my case a bit to allow a larger than stock drive gear to fit in there. And I couldn't help myself I had to jump ahead a tad and test fit the Bob Newby racing belt drive. It should perform as good as it looks!

Some work done, and a lot more to go! I can't wait to see this take shape and find its home in the frame I have going as well!
