Next year.....

We were planning on hitting the road for the Bonneville World Finals this Sunday but due to a family health issue we won't be making it. These things happen, looks like we will just have to go after those records again next August. Thanks to everyone for all the support this race season! Cheers, Kyle and Tyler

A Little Sissy Ingenuity

Grant Donaldson sent us some photos a while ago of his bike-in-progress. He used a Builder Sissy Bar Kit, some Bungs, an Afterhours Titmouse Tail Light, and some time and skill to fab up this cool sissy bar / tail light combo on his Triumph.

Customer Bike Build Photos Needed... Now!

We have quite a large undertaking in full effect at the moment, and we need your help. Weirdo issue #1 is being designed right now, which is going to be the first full length Lowbrow Customs catalog / zine. It isn't going to be a throw-away catalog, but a standalone magazine with content and customer builds as well as parts and apparel we carry. The customer builds is where you come in.

Three pages in issue #1 are going to be devoted to a customer's bike, one American, one British, and one Metric. What we need is at least several photographs, as high resolution as you have, and a brief writeup on the bike. Quality photographs of bikes with both full length shots and closeups are best.

There is a tight timeline as Weirdo issue #1 is going to be available soon, so we have to put the deadline at this Thursday night, September 30th. We will choose 3 customer bikes to include in the first issue, and will post other submissions on the Lowbrow blog. So don't delay, email your submission to me at tyler@lowbrowcustoms.com.

Thanks!
Tyler

Dave's Modern Triumph Chopper

Dave Rhinehart sent in some photos of his recently completed modern Triumph that he chopped with the help of an LCFabrications Hinckley Triumph hardtail frame that he picked up from us. He did a killer job! You can check out more custom chopper and cafe racer parts for modern Triumphs here.

A little work on my 67 Triumph Land Speed Bike

I spent a little time in the shop today working to get my bike ready for the Bonneville World Finals, we leave in just over a week so it's crunch time again! I am switching classes to special construction/partially streamlined pushrod gas. The record is actually a bit softer but I had to do a bunch of modifications to put me into the proper class. These changes should help me go faster too! I will finish the mods and mounting my fairing tomorrow. Special thanks to Glass From the Past for getting me a fairing out on such short notice! Cheers, Kyle

Aussie Invasion at Bonneville Speed Week!

One of the first days of racing I see this bike on the start line while I am waiting for my turn to run. I literally did a double take, took some pics and watched the bike take off....a Vincent...Really?! It was another day or so before we got to meet this crew from the other side of the globe. Ends up they were here to run at Speed Week then stay on and run the BUB trials also, all in all they were spending about 5 weeks in the US traveling in between just crushing records in their classes.
L to R: Mal Hewett, Shane Hicks, Mark Hamilton (Digger), Bill Lockwood, Col Kranz, and Paul Wilkins and their World Record Holding Vincent!
Here is most of the Aussie crew, along with my dad, Tyler and myself waiting in line for one of our last runs at Speed Week.
These guys are the real deal, they left Australia and came halfway around the world to race the salt and make some history. And evidently terrorize some casino waitresses I hear! Hope to see you guys next Speed Week!

The Lowbrow Holeshot was a Sucess. Fun was had, tires were ruined.

The Lowbrow Holeshot was a blast. There was a great turn-out, between racers, spectators and party-goers there was a turnout in the hundreds. The quantity and quality of photos started to wane as the night went on (I can't figure out why haha) but by nightfall there wasn't a parking spot to be had, bikes everywhere, and camps set up all along the entire back fence right near the motocross track.

A big thanks goes out to the sponsors who helped us make this happen. Those sponsors include Biltwell Inc., Chop Cult, Fabricator Kevin, Four Aces Cycle, Greasy Kulture Magazine, Hobgoblin Dark Ale and Sideburn Magazine.

We have uploaded a bunch of photos to a flickr album here, for those of you who were there, please email us (sales@lowbrowcustoms.com) any of your photos from the Holeshot that you would like us to include in the album. Thanks!

New xs650 Project in the Stable

I sold my BSA to my friend Greg, and I am never happy unless there is absolutely no room in the shop to move and so I figured it was time to find another bike to work on in my spare time (ha). Picked up this '75 Yamaha XS650 dirt tracker a couple hours south of me. Runs (kind of) and rides, needs new points and throttle cable. I am going to try and get it dialed in just enough to rip around on it this weekend at the Holeshot and work on it more after that.

Leavin on a jet plane.....

I'm sitting at LAX waiting for my flight home to board and reading this book....so far I agree with alot this guy has to say about today's work culture and the rewards if working with your hands. nice to see the hype is deserved in this case.
I also wanted to thank the Biltwell crew as well as everyone at JRC for the hospitality the last couple days! Cheers, Kyle

The first Video DIY Tech Tip by Lowbrow Customs

Above is the first trial DIY Tech Tip by Lowbrow Customs in video form. Shot this off-the-cuff video and see how it would turn out. Nothing crazy-technical here, this is just a good reference to new British motorcycle owners on how to change out a throttle cable. I have had this question asked to me many times, and it seems simple, though remembering back I am sure this was a 10 minute operation for me where now it is 10 seconds. Let me know what you think by posting comments here on the blog or on youtube... but be kind, I am new to doing any sort of video :)

Please subscribe to our lowbrowcustoms youtube channel for all sorts of motorbike related videos, and there is also a lowbrowproducts channel for video product descriptions we are starting to produce that will soon be available in product listings on the site!

The Salt Ghost At Bonneville Salt Flats 2010

These are just a few teaser photos from Jon Glover who hung out and lent us a hand and photographed the activities for a couple days during Bonneville Speed Week 2010 while we were there with the Four Aces crew racing. I can't wait to get the CD in the mail and check out the rest of the photos, these look amazing.

Here is a pic of Theo Ozen who built this bike and raced it for a couple decades at Bonneville Speed Week in 1967. Stay tuned for more info on both man and machine.

Shopt Time With My New Toy

I finally got my English wheel mounted and was able to start playing with it. I knew there would be a bit of a learning curve since I have never used one before and of course I decided on a super ambitious aluminum fairing project (less than 5 weeks till Bonneville World Finals!) for my 67 Bonneville LSR bike! It is a super cool tool and I know I have just scratched the surface of what it can do, I can't wait until I have more free time to keep trying!

Our friend Arturo in Italy sent us these pics of his friends Norton chopper. I thought it was pretty cool, it's rare to see a Norton chop even here in the states!

My Office.

Here is a shot of where I work for a good chunk of the day. I am sitting here right now typing this blog entry. I wanted to show off my signed Raplh Steadman print that I bought for myself a year ago, I finally got it back from being framed and hung it up. If you don't know Ralph Steadman, he is the artist who did the illustrations for HST. Among the clutter and paper, finned timing cover and cast Hunt mag and Pan springer hobknob with scribbled notes, reciepts and to-do lists from Kyle.
